Kenting, the southest city of Taiwan, is small tropical paradise. It welcomes visitors with warm weather almost all year long – even in December, the temperatures in average to not go under 19 degrees. Kenting is simply the perfect place to enjoy the sun and ocean. But which beach is the best?
1. Little bay: 90 %
Smaller beach located on front of Caesar hotel is quiet place – almost perfect for everybody who needs to escape from stress and crowds. The beach slopes gradually, so it is comfortable to swim around. The area where swimming is allowed is marked at is looks small for the first sight, but actually it is enough for having good swim. The reefs in the eastern side of the beach provide nice place to take pictures, if you are not afraid to climb some of them, you can get nice perspective for your photos.
The beach is located at the edge of Kenting city and it has its own bus stop, so if you pay attention and get off when the sign says 小灣, there are only few stairs dividing you from the seaside. Apart from small bar, there is bathrooms, showers and changing cabins. They are meant for Caesar hotel guests, other guests can use it for small fee. (I got shower for 20 NTD). The only problem at the beach is that basically there is nowhere to hide from the direct sun – which is, especially around lunch time, pretty strong. The umbrellas and seats are just for the hotel guests.
2. Baisha beach: 80 %
Although being bigger and therefore a bit less picaresque than Little Bay beach, Baisha still pays for one of the less crowded beaches. Is a bit of aside from Kenting and there is no bus, so the only way to get there is scooter (most of paces rent it for 24 hours, single seat for 400 NTD, double 800 NTD.). The access to the water is kind of steeper and there are sometimes kind of reefs, so you have to be a bit careful when stepping in the water. When I was there, my swimming was disturbed by the presence of small but annoying jelly fishes. Being constantly bitten, I could not enjoy swimming as much.
Again there are showers toilets and changing cabins at the eastern part of the beach. In the western edge, there is campsite Happy Panda with spacy terrace with 24 hours bar (cocktails and drinks starting for 50 NTD for which you can get can of Taiwan beer or fresh coconut juice) and some small fast food restaurants in a bit more western style (including pizza place). At the beach, you can rent huge umbrella and some seats if you would like to have a shadow.
3. Nanwan beach: 65 %
Nanwan beach located in South bay is good place with all active people for who lying in the beach and swimming is not enough. There are many things to do there: you can surf or try jet skis. By having all that you have to sacrifice one: peace. There is lots of people and all kind of water vehicles around there, so you might find Nanwan beach not the ideal pace the best place to spend quiet, relaxing afternoon.
There are umbrellas for rent at the beach. Also, there are many places to have some snack just across the street- from practical 7/11 to more cozy places such as Bossa Nova Beach Café.
Apart from three beaches I reviewed, there is also Kenting beach (the largest and thefore also the most crowded beach). Also, there is possibility to jump in the sea from the reef near place called The Sail rock.
