There is nothing better than a winter escape to somewhere warm & sunny. When we planned our holiday for February, most of Europe is still experiencing cold weather, and even the Canary Islands were too cold for swimming. We continued our search and finally came across Cape Verde.
Only a 6-hour direct flight from Munich brought us to the volcanic, desert-covered island of Boa Vista in Cape Verde, a country of islands off the western tip of Africa. I looked for the best hotels in Cape Verde with an all-inclusive option and found Iberostar Club Boa Vista. Its beachfront location, being built upon a cliff with beautiful views, really stood out to me. There were also great reviews, focusing especially on its excellent food and great service.
Well, we booked at, and proceeded to spend two amazing weeks there, full of relaxation, sunshine and great seafood. The hotel indeed is worth recommending.
The Location of Iberostar Club Boa Vista
Iberostar Club Boa Vista is just 10 minutes’ drive from the Boa Vista Airport and 20 minutes’ drive from Sal Rei, the major city of the island.
The location is close to perfect: it sits atop Praia de Chaves – the fabulous, picture-postcard white-sand beach that is among the most beautiful ones in the whole archipelago. The hotel is at an elevated position overlooking the beach and sea.
There is currently only one neighboring hotel to Iberostar (with Iberostar being the one with better reviews), while each of the hotels has its own private section of the beach.

With a total of 273 rooms, Iberostar is one of the smaller resorts in Cape Verde. The rooms are laid out over a variety of levels and are accessed via cobbled pathways that spread throughout the grounds and are surrounded by a tropical garden. With the compact size of the resort, all facilities are easily reachable; you’ll never get lost from your travel companions.
Our room was situated on the ground floor, with a bathroom featuring a rainfall showerhead and all the toiletries we needed. The room was spacious, although not the newest one. It featured a double bed, large wardrobe, table & chairs, safe and a TV (we didn’t really watch it, but it was there).
Our room also had a terrace facing the sea, providing us with a view of Praia de Chaves beach stretching as far as the eye can see, backdropped with beautiful sand dunes. Thanks to the elevated position of the resort, the view was really stunning. We loved waking up to sounds of the waves gently lapping against the shore.
Facilities at Iberostar Club Boa Vista
As mentioned above, the resort is rather compact. Still, there are all the facilities you might need during your holiday, including a children’s club and a gym. Currently, there is another hotel being constructed directly next to the Iberostar (we visited in February 2020 and the construction work had just started a few weeks before our arrival).
The beach in front of Club Boa Vista is glorious, and definitely one of the major reasons to stay in this resort. You can not only enjoy the sun but also endless strolls in the sunshine, including the walk up to the sand dunes. We loved the beach and spent some time there every day, except for a few windier days, when we moved to the poolside instead.
The waves on the sea are pretty big here. Be prepared to see the red flag every day; if you see it, you’re still allowed to swim, just with caution and don’t go too far. On the hotel beach, we could usually see as many as three lifeguards, and I saw then in action several times.
We were told that it’s not the waves but the strong current that may cause danger. It’s important to be careful; be prepared that you may only be able to play in the waves, but not go out any further. We still lots of fun, but we weren’t out swimming in the deeper water.
By the way, I have listed 7 Reasons Why Visit Cape Verde and beaches are definitely #1 🙂
The inviting pool area of Iberostar consists of two pools: one big one and a smaller infinity pool. I went swimming every day and enjoyed it. As the pool is unheated, the water is quite refreshing. As a swimmer, you always get plenty of space.
The hotel’s animation team concentrates its activities around the pool. My boyfriend took part in a water polo tournament twice and quite enjoyed it.
Additionally, there is a shallow pool for younger children, useful for anyone traveling with a toddler.
The only thing we didn’t like is the fact that the water in the pool is treated with chlorine. In fact, it seemed to be saltwater mixed with chemicals to keep it clean.
The food we enjoyed at the resort was excellent. There were a lot of fruits and veggies and all meals are served well prepared and finely presented. We ate at the main buffet restaurant the most, and we actually never got bored of it, even after two weeks.
Three times a week, there is BBQ lunch at the beach bar. The food there was quite tasty, but we still preferred the main restaurant as it offers a variety of fresh salads and fruits all the time.
There is one specialty restaurant in the resort and every guest can eat there once per holiday. It focuses on African food, so it’s an interesting experience. I totally recommend upgrading to the lobster menu (26 EUR) to get an even better variety.
All in all, there are a lot of options to eat something at various times of the day, including the fridge in the lobby that serves as a back up for all guests that get hungry even late at night.😊
Just in case you experience a cooler of windier day, the spa is a nice backup. There is a heated pool, whirlpool, sauna, and steamroom. The spa costs extra but it’s rather small. Unless you want to book some kind of massage or treatment, I would say the normal poolside or beach is good enough.
What we loved about Iberostar Boa Vista
There are many reasons to love Iberostar Club Boa Vista, and we are already considering coming back next year. So, what are they doing right? As for me and my boyfriend, there were our favorite features:
Fantastically relaxing hotel
We were looking to enjoy a relaxing beach holiday for two, and Iberostar was the perfect place. It’s not too big and not too noisy. Plus, there is a personal touch so it really makes one feel comfortable and at home.
The view is just breathtaking
The location of the hotel is simply stunning. You will enjoy amazing views of the Atlantic Ocean every day. On our last day, we experienced the sunset from the nearby sand dunes, and it was an amazing experience.
Variety in the main restaurant
We really enjoyed the variety of food, including the theme evenings in the main restaurant. There was, for example, a Japanese (sushi), Mexican and seafood evening. So yummy!
What could have been better
Although we loved our stay at Iberostar Boa Vista, there is no such thing as the perfect resort for everyone. So, what could have been better?
Water in the pool with chlorine
The mixture of saltwater with chlorine is not great. Hopefully the hotel can consider other less chemical-based options to keep the water clean.
Evening animation program
Although the animation team did their best during the day and at night, the quality of the evening shows was pretty mixed. From time to time, it wasn’t much more than a disorganized karaoke session. Speaking for ourselves, we would still enjoy a well-prepared program, even if it’s not daily.
The taste of the drinkable water
We encourage and appreciate that the hotel works hard towards reducing plastic waste. Yet, other water apart from the water in the bottles didn’t have a good taste (trust me, as I did not drink any alcohol during my stay; I survived on water and juices). We hope this feedback will be valuable in the long run.

Iberostar Club Boa Vista is one of the best hotels in Cape Verde. It’s clean and very pretty, making guests feel like they have just landed in paradise.
The resort is compact – rather small compared to some other large resorts that are found throughout this destination. It gives you the feeling of a home away from home, and nothing is too far away.
WiFi is provided throughout the resort, and there is a router placed in each room. The service provided is outstanding, and all employees are very friendly and attentive to guests.
Despite the minor weaknesses, such as the chemical treatment of the pool water, it makes for an amazing place to enjoy a holiday. I am happy to recommend it to others. We will be back!
