When heading to Machovo jezero lake in the north-west of Czech Republic, Hotel Berg is the place for you. You will have hard time finding more comfortable place to sleep. And they have some great wellness, too!
I wasn’t alone to visit the hotel this time. Guess who stayed with me? My grandmother. She really enjoyed the whirpool. Later we had coffee and pancake in the restaurant. We really had great time!
Hotel Berg is located 95 kilometers from Prague in Liberec region, the northernmost part of Bohemia. Liberec region shares international borders with Germany and Poland.
The hotel is built at Machovo jezero, an artificial lake (fish pond) established by Charles IV – the most beloved Czech king and the “father of the Czech nation”. The lake is named after the romantic poet Karel Hynek Mácha. The hotel is located 200 meters from the shore of the lake.
The reception provides good service. Apart from assistance and room advice, you can also ask for newspapers. There is fluffy bathrobe prepared for every guest.
There is 400 m2 wellness area on the ground floor. Taking in account the size of the hotel (there are 21 rooms), the size of the wellness positively surprised me. During my stay, me and my grandmother were the only visitors of the wellness area so we really had lots of spaceJ I took advantage of the swimming pool (size 10 x 5 meters – just enough to have decent swim!) , and then I enjoyed the whirlpool together with my grandmother.
The wellness area also features relaxation area and saunas (bio, seem and finnish sauna) but I did not try it out this time. The wellness are is open from 9 to 19, and there is “naked sauna” opportunity 4 times a week.
The wellness area is nicely decorated with plants and there is also outdoor terrace for sunbathing. My only complaint concerns the swimming pool step ladder – it’s attached in some lousy way one one feels like falling down every time when getting in or out.
Several features of the spa and wellness area have to be bookend and paid separately. I didn’t try it myself, but I saw they have Hot Tube, hammam, Oxygen therapy and massages.
The hotel features huge restaurant that is divided into indoor part, winter terrace and summer terrace. You can see views of Machovo jezero through the trees and have a bit in the meantime – They have some great latte and pancakes with ice cream. The service is really pleasant.
The hotel features special museum dedicated to Frantisek Ringo Cech, Czech lyricist, comedian, publicist and screenwriter .The so-called Ringoland is basically room with paintings and graphics by Cech, together with artefacts from his life. There is a video to watch about him, too.
Although having this kind of exhibition can be interesting for some visitors, I have to say that match with Cech’s paintings is not exactly perfect match with rather classical style hotel design. Since some of the rooms hold the names of music composers, I would rather appreciate small museum about Dvorak or Smetana or other great Czech composers.
Most of rooms behold name after famous composers (apart from the one dedicated to F.R.Cech) and I was staying in room names after Petr Iljič Čajkovskij (#102). The room is neat, decorated in red color with pictures of musical instruments hanging on the wall. It features couch and also safety deposit box. The room itself is rather smaller but there is pre-room with wardrobe. The bathroom is clean and comfortable with complimentary cosmetic products.
There is also flat screen TV that can be watched either from couch or bed. There are 44 various programs, so it’s really asking for movie night:)
My complaint in regards of the room is the wifi – I couldn’t reach any signal unless I went to the hall. However, the manager later informed me that they are about to install new routers shortly.
MY PERSONAL HIGLIGHT
I enjoyed the sunny afternoon on the hotel’s terrace. I had some ice-cream and enjoyed the sunshine. There are threes around so one can hear the birds singing. It’s so relaxing. And you have view of Machovo jezero lake!
The doubles are starting from 2500 CZK (96 USD) per night, the four-people apartments are starting from 2 900 CZK (112 USD). The breakfast is included in the room rate.
