Small volcanic island Camiguin, represeted first coast I reached during my journey across the Philippines. With a joy of a citizen of country without any ocean, I spend in the water most of the afteroon and I didn’t really get out until the sunset. As ridiculous as it can be – I caught a cold. My terribly running nose even prevented me from hiking to the volcano.
Camiguin island is located just about 10 kilometers far from the northern coast of Mindanao (southernmost island in the Philippines). On my way I first took place from Manila to Cagayan de Oro, and then boat to Camiguin island. In the port, there was already pick up waiting for me.
My accommodation called Camiguin Action-Geckos was no far from being something like oasis of relaxation. Bamboo house (in which I rented small but nice travel room with shared bathroom for 800 pesos) is just few steps from the beach as its garden with palm trees and hanging nets turned to be perfect place not just to relax, but also recover from my cold. Although I didn’t really wanted to admit I was sick (believing that positive thinking is the key), the true is that I was not feeling very well.
One of the reasons to come to Camiguin was hiking to its biggest volcano, Mount Hibok-Hibok (1,330 m high), which I had to give up in the end. During the three days and three nights I stayed in Camiguin, I did just couple of small trips such going by boat to White sand island (just 5 kilometers from the coast, basically across my accommodation) or capital city of the island. In Camiguin everything is kind of near (the road around coast is only about 70 kilometers), so as long as you get to the street you can get on trycicle. No need to order transport from the resort every time (I ordered private jeepney upon my arrival and departure.
I spend in Camiguin 3 days. The time was extremely peaceful: most of my time I spent in the garden of the accommodation, in the shadow of palm tree carrying a note BE CAREFUL OF FALLING COCONUT:) The place is run by two owners (German and Swiss) and the German punctuality can be felt everywhere. If you order a meal or a trip, it will be ready on time or 5 minutes earlier. The food was really really tasty, (one of those places where you might easily get overweight if staying longer). It is not only the taste which had European standard, but also the price – taking in account the prices in Philippines, they are higher but you can see in in quality – I do not think I will ever forgthet the fish, it was the most delicious dishes of my 21 days in Ohilippines (and one of the best in my life). One and only complain regarding food is that the “pancake brakfast menu” has changed during my stay, downgrading the size of the pancake but upgrading the price. I minded as that was my favorite breakfast. Nevertheless, I could hardly imagine better place to stay in all Camiguin.
Next destination after Camiguin island I was happy to travel to already as almost healthy. But aAbout Bohol island, where I got by boat from Camiguion, next time.

Enjoyed your post above on Camiguin. Looks like you were able to relax even though you’re not well. Did you travel just by yourself?
I tend not to drop a comment, however after reading
