Choosing a laptop backpack is more complicated than it sounds, especially if you want to travel with it. But how do you choose the right backpack that could not only store a laptop, tablet and other gadgets, but would also look good?
About a month ago, I started using Daily Backpack from Standard Luggage Co. for commuting between Ingolstadt and Munich. And honestly, I don’t think I am ever going to switch to another bag. Featuring neat compartments for my two laptops and made of quality materials, I am thrilled to have it.
Features of the luggage
Standard Luggage Co. is a Canada-based company that was started in 2015 and has its roots in Kickstarter. They are specialized in carry-on-sized travel backpacks for international travel, offering free worldwide shipping and 100% Satisfaction Guarantee.
The Daily Backpack is an 18L convertible bag that is suitable both for work and travel. The dimensions are 45 x 28 x 15 cm. The product was designed in Toronto, Canada and manufactured in China. The current selling price is $119.00 USD.
The Daily Backpack is divided into two compartments and has the ability to swap between carrying styles. Although I do enjoy using it as a backpack, it can be also carried as a messenger or briefcase. The additional straps are included in the package. Flexibility is always nice, right?
From a design point of view, the backpack is all about clean lines and a sleek profile. Thanks to the fitted and tight edges, the backpack gives a stylish and high-tech impression.
The exterior material is a 310D polyurethane sealed nylon, which is known for its high water-resistance while still maintaining soft flexibility. The bag is water-resistant for everyday drizzle; however, if it starts pouring, the pack comes with its own rain cover for extra peace of mind.
What I like about it
After one month of using it, this daily backpack proved to be a versatile and comfortable bag for daily commuting trips.
A technology-friendly bag
The bag is perfect for loading electronics, such as photography equipment and others. I currently do have two laptops, one is 14 inches and the other one is 15 inches: they both fit perfectly to the bag. The compartments are made in such a way that you are not afraid for your devices even without including the dividers for separate devices. This bag is very technology-friendly indeed.
Comfortable to carry even when full
It feels like great thought has been put into selecting quality materials for the bag. As a result, the bag is durable and even perfect for carrying around heavier things. Once placed on your back, you nearly don’t feel that it’s there; the firm shape feels balanced in its weight distribution.
Small zipped pockets for passport and valuables
From the outside, the Daily backpack is equipped with 3 zippered pockets, with two of them being hidden out of the sight and therefore providing a great place for storing valuables. It is perfect for traveling around or moving around the airport because you can always reach your passport or boarding pass very smoothly. This feature just adds to the functionality, without affecting the clean and stylish look of the bag.
What could’ve been better
You will have to get used to its shape; it is a bit too much box-like for me. It cant be compressed, so if you end up traveling with it nearly empty, you can’t make it any smaller. It might feel too big if you carry a laptop only.
The bag It is perfect for commuting or day trips. If you have mastered the skill of minimalistic packing, you can bring it for weekend trips or multiple-day trips, too. The 18 L is divided into two compartments, so you should always keep this in mind and it could be limiting. When packing for a longer journey, you can also consider Standard’s Carry-on Backpack, which offers a capacity of 45 litters and is a popular choice among nomadic travelers. I have taken it for a 10-day trip to Turkey, and you can find my detailed review here.
So, should you get it?
Overall, I found Standard Luggage Co. Daily Backpack to be a pretty great solution for connecting work and travel. It is perfect for commuting and carrying technological devices around safely. The bag is waterproof, made from quality materials and provides great support when carrying a heavier load. The 18L capacity might not be enough for long-term travels, but it makes a great fit for day or weekend trips. If you are carrying around your camera and laptops frequently, the Daily Backpack is indeed a cool solution.
Standard Luggage sent me a device to test and review it. All opinions are my own.
